Harassment Complaints Database: Union Policy
Branches are reminded of the CWU's stance on dealing with bullying and harassment cases. A bullying and harassment complaints database is held in the Equal Opportunities Department.
Branches are encouraged to utilise the HCD1 form to record allegations of bullying and harassment made by CWU members. Information concerning the HCD1 form can be found on the CWU website under the Equal Opportunities section.
We appreciate that this will add to an already busy work schedu le but it is essential that, as a union, we instil confidence in our members that our zero tolerance policy on bullying and harassment is followed up with action and not just words.
The data that comes through to headquarters will be vital in enabling us to analyse and identify any problem patterns which may exist and we can flag these accordingly.
We extend our appreciation to all those branches who consistently comply with this request and look forward to the co-operation of all branches in this matter.
Any queries in relation to this paragraph should be addressed to Linda Roy, National Equality Office.

Mandatory Equality & Diversity Training
Branch secretaries are requested to ensure that any person in their branch who has CWU representative responsibilities and has not yet completed their mandatory equality & diversity training are enrolled in the courses that are planned throughout the regions in the forthcoming months.
All reps must do the training - this includes divisional reps, area reps, unit reps and branch officers. For clarification on dates please contact your regional secretary.
The training has been running now for over three years and there are still a substantial number of reps who have not completed the training.
Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Equal Opportunities Department.

BTMSL - Future Operational Plans
Management had planned to make announcements last week regarding operational plans for BTMSL.
Due to last minute issues with regard to legal considerations and customer consent the conference call, although taking place, was severely restricted in content.
The attached communication was sent to members by way of attempting to explain the last minute barriers encountered which prevented full information being disclosed.

BTMSL: Kcom External Organisation
Attached for the information of branches is a presentation on the new BTMSL KCom External organisation.
While the structural changes did lead to a reduction in five "management" posts, the union secured an outcome which ensured no impact on terms and conditions of employment.

Saturday 27 October 2012: Stop The EDL Again! No Racist and Fascist English Defence League on Our Streets. Gather from 11am Walthamstow Town Centre. On 1 September over 4,000 people came out to protest against the English Defence League marching in Walthamstow. People from all sections of our community united in peaceful determined protest to send a powerful message that the EDL is not welcome here. In desperation the EDL have deliberately called a march to coincide with Eid, an important Muslim festival. This is a complete abuse of our community. We have a right to live our lives in peace without any threat from fascist groups like the EDL. We will not allow these racist thugs to intimidate us or denigrate the values and beliefs of our residents. We welcome the leader of the Borough Council in calling for united opposition to the EDL on our streets. We urge everyone to again join us in peaceful protest on Saturday 27 October. And, this time, we are also calling on people from around the country to come and stand shoulder to shoulder with the residents of Walthamstow to defend our multi-cultural community. Together, united, we will stop the EDL. Get involved today! On Facebook: www.facebook.com/wearewalthamforestSign up for email updates at This email address is being protected from spambots.
